CA6NM stainless steel is a kind of low carbon martensitic stainless steel. It has good mechanical properties, static fracture toughness, and underwater fatigue performance of large section, and also has good cavitation resistance and welding performance. Heat treatment

The steel is mainly quenched and tempered and has different heat treatment processes according to different performance requirements.

The following are typical heat treatment processes:

Annealing       590-640℃ 

Conditioning       1000-1050℃ normalizing

                            600-620℃ tempering

CA6NM Stainless Steel Application

This steel is generally used for parts with severe cavitation and high requirements for comprehensive mechanical properties, such as runner blades, upper crown, lower ring, leak stop ring, and wear plate in the turbine. In pump products, it is mainly used to make pump impeller with high anti-cavitation performance or feedwater pump shaft with high mechanical performance. At the same time, it can also be used to manufacture various important parts bearing impact and high load, such as connectors and fasteners.

Magnetic properties

Martensitic stainless steel with strong ferromagnetism.

Chemical properties

Oxidation resistance: the steel has excellent oxidation resistance.

Corrosion resistance: it has good corrosion resistance to general corrosive media (such as brine, nitric acid and some organic acids with low concentration) at room temperature,。

Underwater fatigue property: σ – 1 = 260-300 MPa

Elastic properties

Elastic modulus at room temperature E=200Gpa

Fracture properties K1C=390MN/m3/2

CA6NM Process performance

Hot working performance: forging temperature range 1050-1150 ℃, final forging temperature greater than 850 ℃.

Weldability

The weldability of the steel is good, the hardening tendency of HAZ is small and the stress is small. However, as cast, welding is strictly prohibited

Repair welding and cutting riser and other thermal process operations. After 600-650 softening annealing treatment, the castings shall be repaired or welded before quenching and tempering.

Cutting and grinding

CA6NM stainless steel has high strength and toughness after heat treatment, so it has good machinability and grindability.

Casting technology

CA6NM stainless steel has excellent casting properties, and it is not easy to produce cracks during solidification and shrinkage. However, reasonable design of gating and riser system should be paid attention to.
