What is Austenitic stainless steel ?

Austenitic stainless steel refers to the stainless steel with austenite structure at room temperature. It is a kind of stainless steel with high strength, good corrosion resistance, and excellent durability.

Austenitic steel also has the advantages of beautiful, environment-friendly, easy to clean and maintain. It is widely used in construction, automobile, and others

Austenitic stainless steel

Austenitic steel composition

Most austenitic steels contain about 18% Cr, 8% ~ 25% Ni, and a small amount of Ti and N.

Cr can increase the solubility of carbon and improve the corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel.

The existence of Ni can stabilize austenite, which makes austenitic steel have good strength, toughness and plasticity. But it  reduces the heat resistance.

Austenitic stainless steel grades

Our austenitic stainless steel grades are listed below

Series

200 series stainless steel: Cr Ni Mn austenitic steel

This kind of material is developed on the basis of chromium nickel austenitic steel by adding manganese and nitrogen instead of nickel. It is not as good as 300 series austenitic stainless steel in corrosion resistance and toughness. It is suitable for cabinet, food processing and other fields.

200 series stainless steel

300 series stainless steel: Cr Ni austenitic steel

This kind of steel alloy is an alloy material containing iron, carbon, nickel and chromium. It is a kind of non-magnetic stainless steel material. 300 series stainless steel has good weldability, wear resistance and excellent corrosion resistance. It can be used as ultra-high strength material in nuclear energy industry and aerospace industry

Properties

Heat resistance

It has high heat resistance. According to different grades, it has different heat resistance, about 800-1900 ℃. This allows austenitic stainless steel to be used for welding.

Heat treatment

This steel alloy cannot be hardened by heat treatment. The strength of austenite can be improved only by cold working or reduction.

Thermal conductivity

Its thermal conductivity is only half of that of low carbon steel and its heat transfer is slow. Therefore, its holding time needs to be extended.

Formability

Austenitic steel has high formability, which greatly increases its practical degree.

Magnetic

No magnetism.

Production technology

It has good production technology. Various steel plates, steel tubes, bars, forgings and castings can be produced by conventional means of producing special steels.
